WWE Night of Champions 2011 preview

World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton vs. Mark Henry

In a showdown that promises to produce nothing short of pure bedlam in Buffalo, World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton will attempt to slam the doors shut on Mark Henry’s “Hall of Pain,” in an epic World Title Match at Night of Champions.
For months, the enraged Mark Henry has been busy, filling his “Hall of Pain” with victims that include Kane, Big Show, Sheamus and any other unfortunate soul that has gotten in his way. However, since becoming the No. 1 contender to the World Heavyweight Title – in a 20-Man Battle Royal on SmackDown (WATCH) – The World's Strongest Man has become even more vicious, relentless and focused in his brutal path of destruction. This was painfully evident during a live SuperSmackDown, when Henry delivered an excruciating assault on Randy Orton, just moments after WWE’s Apex Predator had overcome Christian in a grueling Steel Cage World Title Match (WATCH). Ten days later, he repeated his onslaught, informing Orton that the only reason he didn’t permanently damage him was that he was coming for his World Championship. This raised huge questions as whether there is anyone or anything that can realistically stop such an uncontrollable force of nature.
On the other hand, according to Randy Orton, the solution to stopping Henry’s devastation in its tracks is a simple one: RKO. And if a blockage to the massive aggressor’s behavior is needed, there is simply no one better to carry it out. After all, The Viper did not become The Viper by accident. He is dangerous, frighteningly cunning and capable of striking without warning. Since coming to SmackDown, not only has he captured the World Title, but he has bested a sea of high-profile Superstars that include Christian, Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes, Sheamus, The Great Khali and Ted DiBiase. Over the course of his career, he has stood toe-to-toe with the best in the business from The Undertaker to Edge to John Cena to Triple H.
However, despite the incredible list of credits to Orton’s name, there is no denying that the rage and experience of his latest challenger – festering for 15 years – has finally unleashed itself on WWE. And with such unpredictable rage against him, there is no telling how their match-up will end.
Find of who will emerge from the destruction with the World Heavyweight Championship. Don’t miss Night of Champions, Sunday, September 18 at 8/7 CT, only on pay-per-view. Order now.

Divas Champion Kelly Kelly vs. Beth Phoenix
“Your days as the cute, perky blond bimbo are over.” – Beth Phoenix, to Divas Champion Kelly Kelly on August 1, 2011.
With those words, The Glamazon had drawn a line in the sand – she was determined to change the very face of the Divas division. At SummerSlam two weeks later, though, she failed in her quest, coming up short in her title match against Kelly Kelly. At Night of Champions, however, Phoenix will once again have an opportunity to usher in a new era. For Kelly Kelly, a victory at the prestigious pay-per-view would go a long way in vindicating her as champion and proving yet again that she’s much more than just a pretty face.
The controversy in the Divas division was brought to stark relief when WWE.com published an article questioning whether or not the Divas division needed “saving.” While the story credited all Divas for their impressive work ethic, its insights clearly rankled some, who felt Beth and her “Divas of Doom” partner, Natalya, were being singled out for preferential treatment.
The dustup shone a long overdue spotlight on a division rich in legendary names such as WWE Hall of Famers Fabulous Moolah and Wendi Richter, as well as the incomparable Trish Stratus. The tension between Kelly Kelly and Phoenix demonstrates just how passionately these women feel about maintaining that historic legacy.  Will The Glamazon forge a new era in the Divas division in her hometown of Buffalo, N.Y.? Or will Kelly Kelly finally silence her critics once and for all, convincing the WWE Universe that she’s truly earned the right to be Divas Champion?

From the start, Natalya looked well on her way to victory over  Divas Champion Kelly Kelly. But, the champion managed to counter a Sharpshooter and wrap up the Diva of Doom with small package for win. After the bell, Beth Phoenix tried to get her hands on Kelly Kelly, but the champion proved too quick and eluded her grasp.

World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton def. Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Once former Legacy allies, World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton and Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes went to war in the night’s main event. After countering the Cross Rhodes, Orton went on to drop the masked Superstar with an RKO for the win. But the action was far from over.
Similar to the close of last week's Steel Cage Match, the massive Mark Henry had Orton in his sights. This time, though, Orton decided to strike first. But The World’s Strongest Man quickly fired back, driving Orton to the canvas with two World’s Strongest Slams. Then after grabbing a steel chair, the No. 1 contender perched above the champion with his title in hand – and Orton’s throat preciously positioned under the chair. With the champion gasping for air, Henry clearly proved his dominance. But instead of inflicting more damage – including breaking Orton's leg – Henry said his main objective is the World Title. At Night of Champions, can he accomplish his ultimate goal? (PREVIEW)

Beth Phoenix def. Eve in a No. 1 Contender’s Match (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Beth Phoenix is determined to change the landscape of the Divas division. And now, she’s earned the opportunity to do just that. The Glamazon defeated Eve in a No. 1 Contenders Match and will now face Divas Champion Kelly Kelly, who already defeated her at SummerSlam, in a title match at Night of Champions.
The Divas Champion as well as Beth’s fellow “Diva of Doom,” Natalya, each looked on from ringside as the match unfolded. After the bell sounded, Kelly went to check on Eve, but Natalya pulled her back down and slammed her into the arena floor. As Kelly writhed in pain, Natalya stepped into the ring and helped Beth celebrate her victory.

World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton def. Heath Slater (WATCH | PHOTOS)
Add another chapter to Randy Orton’s book of anger management issues. After being thrashed by Mark Henry after his Steel Cage victory on SuperSmackDown, The World Heavyweight Champion needed a target on which to unleash his anger. Unfortunately for Heath Slater, he proved a suitable punching bag. The former WWE Tag Team Champion got rocked by The Viper, who showed why he’s so treacherous while sending a message to The World’s Strongest Man.

World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton def. Christian in a Steel Cage Match(PHOTOS | WATCH)
With his World Heavyweight Championship on the line, Randy Orton fought tooth-and-nail with a hard-charging and determined Christian. As both Superstars battled atop the cage then the top rope, the champion dropped Christian with a blistering RKO for the win. But before Orton could relish in his win, No. 1 contender Mark Henry rushed to the cage.
The most dangerous man in WWE then went to work dismantling The Viper by bashing him skull-first into the steel cage, clotheslining him then finally finishing him off with a brutal World’s Strongest Slam. With WWE’s Apex Predator at his feet, Henry hoisted his title high. Was the night a sign of things to come with both Superstars on an imminent collision course?
