WWE Hell in a Cell 2012 results - October 28,2012

Randy Orton def. Alberto del Rio

ATLANTA — There can only be one Apex Predator in WWE, and when the smoke cleared at Hell in a Cell, it was Randy Orton who sat atop the food chain after defeating Alberto Del Rio in a hotly anticipated grudge match that brought out the darkest and most vicious tendencies of both Superstars. (PHOTOS)
Del Rio had made much of his supposed supplanting of Orton atop the WWE food chain, mocking The Viper’s signature poses and referring to him as a “garden snake” en route to their showdown at Hell in a Cell. Orton had not seemed his typical, predatory self either as Hell in a Cell approached, suffering a loss to the resurgent Wade Barrett and coming up short when The Mexican Aristocrat sprung sneak attacks on the unsuspecting nine-time World Champion. For all of Del Rio’s history of bluster, it seemed like The Essence of Excellence did, in fact, have Randy Orton’s number.
Of course, appearances can be deceiving.
Orton was anything but de-fanged at Hell in a Cell, unleashing a venomous onslaught on Del Rio that, despite his best efforts, the opulent one-percenter was unable to withstand. Orton opened the match with just such an attack, hitting Del Rio with knees to the stomach and wasting no time taking the fight to the outside, smashing Del Rio’s face against the announce table and turnbuckle in a matter of seconds.
With an assist from Ricardo Rodriguez, however, Del Rio was able to revert to his time-honored game plan of targeting his opponent’s arm. In an attempt to soften The Viper up for the Cross Armbreaker, Del Rio strung Orton up in the ropes before applying a hanging, inverted version of the hold that left Orton writhing in pain on the mat.
As Del Rio’s assault continued, Orton attempted to reverse The Mexican Aristocrat’s momentum with a roll-up attempt, but Del Rio kicked out and went right back to work, wrenching Orton into a second, inverted version of the Cross Armbreaker. Del Rio’s insistence on using the entire five-count came back to haunt him, though, when Orton wriggled free and dropped Del Rio on the edge of the apron, gaining his momentum back and escaping from the Cross Armbreaker again before setting up for the hanging DDT.
Del Rio managed to escape, though, and ultimately took his mockery one step too far when he mimicked Orton’s signature taunt and attempted to execute an RKO on The Viper. Orton, however, would not be denied. The former World Champion, slightly hindered by Del Rio’s attacks to his arm, swung The Essence of Excellence into the hanging DDT, connecting this time and setting up a brutal barrage that seemed to turn the tide of the match in his favor … but Del Rio had one final, wicked trick up his sleeve.
While Orton set up for a top rope suplex, The Mexican Aristocrat tripped Orton and trapped his legs in the ropes, stomping on the chest of the inverted third-generation Superstar and covering him for a two-count. With his sternum and his arm compromised, Orton seemed down for the count when The Essence of Excellence applied the Cross Armbreaker yet again. But The Viper, showing his heart, writhed his way out of the hold and slithered back to the turnbuckle, where Del Rio went for his patented enzuigiri … and then, finally, The Viper struck, dodging the kick and catching Del Rio in a midair RKO, felling Del Rio and leaving him no delusions as to who exactly he’d been mocking, belittling and baiting all along:
His name is Randy Orton. And he is still The Apex Predator.

Power 25 [October 27,2012]

11 Randy Orton
WWE’s Apex Predator falls a spot thanks to a blue brand loss to Wade Barrett Friday night.

WWE.com article: Has The Viper lost his bite to the cunning Del Rio?

Randy Orton kicked off the Oct. 26 edition of SmackDown with his usual quiet confidence and stoicism as he responded to Alberto Del Rio’s dogged pursuit of the nine-time World Title holder.
Unfortunately, Orton also forgot to keep his guard up.
Moments after promising to dole out “the single most brutal beating of [Del Rio’s] life” at WWE Hell in a Cell this Sunday (MATCH PREVIEW), The Viper fell prey to an assault from behind by longstanding rival Wade Barrett. The English brawler’s sneak attack was not only brief, but its purpose — to prove that Del Rio could play mind games with the third-generation Superstar — also came through loud and clear.
Just a few short months ago, the master of the RKO stood on the ring apron and stated his intentions to challenge Sheamus for his World Heavyweight Championship. Orton would come up short against Big Show, however, for the right to be The Celtic Warrior’s next No. 1 contender — thanks to two vicious ambushes by Del Rio. (WATCH) Then after being taunted by a seemingly fearless Del Rio in the weeks that followed, a timely distraction by The Mexican Aristocrat on Friday evening caused The Viper to succumb to Barrett’s Souvenir Elbow for a demoralizing defeat just two days before the upcoming pay-per-view.
It leaves the WWE Universe asking one question: Has Alberto Del Rio caused Randy Orton to lose his serpentine edge?

After Randy Orton and Del Rio exchanged words on their imminent Hell in a Cell clash, Wade Barrett attacked The Viper

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Just two days before WWE Hell in a Cell, World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus and his No. 1 contender Big Show hurled SmackDown into chaos, WWE’s Apex Predator went head-to-head with The Barrett Barrage and the WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No exchanged victories with their devious pay-per-view challengers, Team Rhodes Scholars.
(WATCH | PHOTOS)
Randy Orton opened SmackDown, setting the record straight that he doesn’t dislike Alberto Del Rio because he attacked him several weeks ago, but because of why he attacked him — to make people forget how “disappointing” he was for failing to overcome World Heavyweight Champion Sheamus in several World Title Matches. The Viper claimed that Del Rio was not only “dishonest,” but also had picked the wrong Superstar to make an example of. The nine-time World Champion promised to give his adversary the “most brutal beating of his life” at Hell in a Cell. (MATCH PREVIEW)
The Mexican Aristocrat interrupted, characterizing his pay-per-view opponent, not as a Viper, but as a “garden snake that he could crush with his boot whenever he wanted.” He also insisted that he was the “the new Apex Predator of WWE.”
While Orton insinuated that Del Rio was afraid of him, the affluent competitor chose not to get in the ring with his adversary two days before their Hell in a Cell clash. However, as the furious Viper watched him go, Wade Barrett suddenly launched a sneak attack, taking down Orton form behind.
Moments later in the back, Barrett asked Del Rio if that was what he was looking for, indicating that he had attacked Orton at The Mexican Aristocrat’s direction. Teddy Long, the Senior Adviser to the SmackDown General Manager, then informed the English Superstar that Booker T had called him to go one-on-one with The Viper later on SmackDown.

Following a sneak attack by Wade Barrett earlier in the show, Randy Orton took on The Barrett Barrage in a fierce back-and-forth battle that stretched both inside and outside the ring. But thanks to a key distraction from Orton’s Hell in a Cell opponent, Alberto Del Rio, in the climactic final moments of the match, Barrett unleashed the Souvenir Elbow on The Viper from behind for the victory.
As the smoke cleared, Del Rio looked to once again prove himself the “new WWE Apex Predator” by attacking his fallen Hell in a Cell opponent. But when he tried for the Cross Armbreaker, Orton countered, nearly hitting the RKO before Del Rio escaped out of the ring.
The exchange served as one more example of the personal nature of the coming fight between Orton and Del Rio at Hell in a Cell and served as a definitive warning that the WWE Universe had better brace themselves for an all-out war this Sunday. (MATCH PREVIEW)

Power 25 [October 20,2012]

10 Randy Orton
With a victory over The Miz on SmackDown, WWE’s Apex Predator slithers into the top 10 on the rankings.

WWE Smackdown results [October 19,2012]

Randy Orton def. The Miz

(WATCH | PHOTOS)
Far above the ring in a luxury box, Alberto Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez observed the impromptu match between former Intercontinental Champion The Miz and Del Rio’s recently named Hell in a Cell opponent, Randy Orton. (MATCH PREVIEW) When approached by Matt Striker, Del Rio reiterated that Orton was afraid of him and that he was, in fact, “WWE’s new Apex Predator.”
For his part, The Viper kept one serpentine eye on The Awesome One and one on The Mexican Aristocrat throughout the entire contest. And after pointing up to his Hell in a Cell adversary and avoiding Miz’s Skull-Crushing Finale, Orton struck with the RKO for the pin.
While Orton invited Del Rio down to the squared circle after the match, The Mexican Aristocrat informed him and the WWE Universe that a showdown between them would be on his terms, not those of WWE’s Apex Predator.

WWE Main Event 2012 results [October 10,2012]

Big Show def. Randy Orton (PHOTOS | WATCH)
Based on their respective interviews before the contest, there was no love lost between The World’s Largest Athlete and WWE’s Apex Predator. The bitter rivalry intensified on SmackDown two weeks prior, when Big Show defeated Orton in a World Heavyweight Title No. 1 Contender’s Match. The World’s Largest Athlete took advantage of an attack by Alberto Del Rio before that match, injuring The Viper’s ribs. On WWE Main Event, though, Orton struck with a fast-paced offense to keep Big Show reeling. The rib injury soon came into play, however, with a powerful blow from the giant stopping Orton’s momentum.
Big Show’s strategy was effective in keeping The Viper on defense throughout the contest. Orton’s injured ribs seemed to be easy targets for the massive fists of The World’s Largest Athlete, and though WWE’s Apex Predator managed to execute an impressive DDT from the third rope, his gigantic opponent was able to roll out of the ring following an RKO.
Relentless, Orton attempted a second RKO at ringside, but Big Show resisted, tossing Orton into the side of the ring with his ribs absorbing the impact. Reeling in pain, Orton’s ribs became the target of a series of huge elbow drops and two Colossal Clutches before Big Show secured the victory with a chokeslam.
